Replica of 1946 Cabin Car in a modern Art Deco style
The design was inspired by the Canadian Cabin Car that was produced for a very short time in 1946. A strange story of an aluminium aircraft manufacturing company called Fleet Industries who , after losing the contract to supply aircraft parts to the American government after the war , They decided to produce timber recreational campers . It seems strange today to reskilled aluminium craftsman and produce timber vehicles for the California and Florida markets , but after producing 1500 Cabin car they were stored in a holding yard ready to be loaded onto the train on their their journey south . Unfortunately they were not protected from the elements and most were showing signs of deterioration before they even got onto the train ! Less than 100 were actually delivered before the company went into voluntary administration.
